The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued directives to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to address violations of environmental norms by industrial units in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The tribunal emphasized the imposition of environmental compensation and mandated the submission of an action taken report within four months.
In response to an original application filed by an aggrieved organization, the NGT appointed a committee to investigate environmental pollution in the village of Nirana, Post Bhikke, Muzaffarnagar. The committee’s report highlighted various violations by industrial units, raising concerns about the health and well-being of local residents.
Allegations of increasing incidents of cancer, unusual diseases, and water contamination due to industrial waste have underscored the urgency of addressing environmental degradation in the area. The plea highlighted the failure of authorities to fulfill their responsibilities and utilize corporate social responsibility funds for providing clean drinking water to villagers.
The unchecked discharge of industrial waste into water bodies poses significant risks to public health and the environment, necessitating immediate intervention to mitigate pollution and protect community well-being.
As the NGT takes proactive measures to enforce environmental regulations, stakeholders must work collaboratively to address industrial pollution and safeguard the ecological integrity of Muzaffarnagar and its surrounding areas.
